There is a little unknown blood test for Fibromyalgia, which has been FDA approved, and available to test Fibromyalgia since 2012. This blood test is called the FM/a® Blood Test, developed by EpiGenetics. Further, this blood test is a multi-biomarker test which analyzes the immune systems white blood cells, specifically the Chemokine and Cytokine patterns within the white blood cells. Not only is this blood test available in many countries, it is also covered by many Health Insurance Plans, Medicare and Medicaid, along with CHAMPVA Insurance.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) officially acknowledges Fibromyalgia as a recognized medical condition, warranting VA disability compensation for Veterans, if it is found to be service connected. However, many Veterans continue to struggle to be service connected for Fibromyalgia. The biggest barrier to this is there are not enough Medical Doctors specializing in Fibromyalgia in the private medical sector and there are even less at the VA. This is why Veterans need to be the CEO of our Healthcare because we are the major stakeholder of our medical journey. While many Medical Providers will say "there is no blood test for Fibromyalgia," Veterans with Fibromyalgia can be a positive, proactive patient (and Advocate!) simply by providing their medical providers the information on the FM/a Blood test. So, if you are a Veteran struggling to get a diagnosis of Fibromyalgia, or having difficulty being awarded VA Service Connection Compensation for Fibromyalgia, then advocate with your medical providers to order this blood test. Further, the VA Compensation and Pension Department also accepts the result of the FM/a® Blood Test as proof you have Fibromyalgia.
